Amongst all the inclosed crafts stands at the Bryant Park outdoor market, there is one that especially catches the eye. With its doors open one can see many tin hearts fixed onto the back wall refracting the sunlight. These hearts “Milagros” adorn the wall behind the register of a stand boldly titled “Copalli Mexican Folk Art.” Copalli Mexican Folk Art is a Fair Trade Mexican hand crafts store run by Danny Tepi and Gabriela Bahena. The Copalli Bryant Park booth dedicates its shelf space entirely to some of the best Hand Crafts that Mexico has to offer; this makes for one of the most vibrantly colored booths at the market. Though featured physically at the 2020-21 Holiday Bryant Park market, the Copalli Collective also have an online store as well as an active relationship with the organization Mano A Mano where they sell crafts at their Day of the Dead celebrations. The Co-Owners are Mexican Americans living in New York, they developed this project as a way to express their love of Mexican Arts Culture as well as support Mexican Artisans directly. For years Danny and Gabriella have worked directly with the same artisan families, because of this they successfully foster an equitable relationship with the artists. The mission of the Copalli Collective is to provide high quality and beautiful pieces to New Yorkers from all cultures and equally as important they are a support system to their artisans so their Arts Culture can continue for years to come.
